KINGSTON STUDENT TESTING IN HALES TANK
While the first new Hales Venturi-ducted Micro Generation turbine units are being built, for which the test facility in Hastings has been constructed to display, a Msc student from the Faculty of Engineering, Kinston University, London, will be testing his own horizontal axis tidal stream turbine design with the aid of staff from the Test Centre during April 2014, as part of his degree course work.
This early testing programme will be using a TorqSense transducer made by Sensor Technology Ltd in Oxfordshire combined with a small disc brake type dynamometer made in-house. For water flow measurement we will use Omni Miniwater 6 flow meters linked through data logger units to laptops for recording.
Several other Tidal and Water Turbine developers have enquired about the facility to conduct primary device testing under controlled conditions, also done in a safe and confidential location.
