As with all new bespoke projects, some items have to be corrected and altered.
After filling theTest & Demonstratio Tank and checking for soundness, the drive system was worked up to full speed without any major problems, the special keypad operated Optidrive Control unit allows the water flow drive system to be started at very slow speed , after the current circulation has started then the motor is increased in small increaments to full speed.
Two items that needed attention, one of the drive shaft support bearings had the wrong material installed in the bushing which has started to bind on the shaft and had to be changed. This means some of the water has to be remove so the drive shaft can be pulled and the bushing replace with a new made from Vesconite Hylube, the same material used in the Ducted Hales Turbine units, While the water level has been lowered we will install some extra stainless steel internal baffles to direct the water flow around the test tank better..
The second major snagging issue is the wrong type of electrical cabling had been installed between the Optidrive Control inverter and the main motor which allowed a very high EM signal to effect the data logger and laptops in the tank testing equipment operation.
Shielding the new cable in copper tube should remove this problem.
Most of the commissioning should be completed this month and various prototypes and one of the Venturi Ducted Hales Turbine units, now being assembled, will be fitted within the tank for tests and demonstrations.
