AFTER SEVERAL LONG DISCUSSIONS WITH THE CEO OF TIDAL SAILS AS, A NORWEGIAN RENEWABLE ENERGY COMPANY WITH PATENTED TIDAL STREAM DEVICE THAT COMPRISED OF TWO FIXED VERTICAL SUPPORTS THAT CONTROLLED A STRONG CABLING SYSTEM CARRYING A LARGE NUMBER OF "SAILS" OR ANGLED BLADES WHICH ARE DRIVEN BETWEEN THE VERTICAL SUPPORTS BY THE WATER FLOW TO PRODUCE USEFUL POWER.
A POSSIBLE AGREEMENT TO WORK TOGETHER WOULD ALLOW TIDAL SAILS AS TO SEEK UK FUNDING FROM THE NEW FUNDS BEING DIRECTED TO UK TIDAL POWER DEPLOYMENT . HALES WATER TURBINES LTD WOULD USE ITS MANY YEARS OF TIDAL STREAM DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING TO HELP AND IMPROVE THE TIDAL SAIL AS DESIGN AS REQUIRED.
AFTER CAREFUL EVALUATION OF THE TIDAL SAIL AS DESIGN, IT WAS FELT THAT SEVERAL MAJOR DESIGN PRINCIPLES HAD BEEN MISSED AND IT WOULD NOT BENEFIT FOR HALES WATER TURBINES LTD TO BE INVOLVED.
A SIMPLE CASE IN POINT IS THE USE OF "SKI LIFT" TYPE CABLE SYSTEM TO CARRY THE MAIN LOADING OF THIS TIDAL ENERGY DEVICE. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PRINCIPLE THAT WIRE FORM CABLES, WHICH CAN BE LUBRICATED AND PROTECTED IN "SKI LIFT " TYPE OPERATIONS, SUFFER BADLY FROM THE SALT WATER CORROSION AND ABRASIVE WORKINGS OF GRIT AND SUSPENDED PARTICLES AND WOULD REQUIRE REPEATED REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT ( the primary reason that ship's have anchor chains and not cables)
WE WISH TIDAL SAILS AS THE BEST FORTUNE IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT.
