HALES TURBINES ATTEND PRO-TIDE CONFERENCE AT DOVER
Two directors from Hales Water Turbines Ltd attended the two day Pro-Tide Conference held 30th Sept - 1st Oct 2015 at the Cruise Terminal 2 at Dover.
This EU sponsored programme, which has been running for several years was started to evaluate the Tidal Stream potential of four sites, two in the UK, Dover and the Isle of Wight , also locations in Belgium ( the River Scheldt) and the Province of Zeeland in Holland.
The eighty plus delegates attending were given detailed updates on each locations progress and a chance to interact with the speakers.
Hales Water Turbines Ltd was not notified of the conference time table although we had been active in the Pro-Tide evaluation of tidal generation at Dover from an area just outside the harbour breakwater shown above.
Space was available for HWT to take a complete 1MX1M Micro-generation turbine unit we use for display and shows but this was sadly missed.
Interesting contact was made with several delegates to follow up . The Pro-Tide research programme on the River Scheldt has been conducting trials with three tidal energy devices in the extremely low flow speeds in the waterway, in the region of one m/s (the speed the Hales Turbines are designed for).
Results from the three prototype devices were somewhat mixed and it is hoped that Hales Water Turbines Ltd can now take one of the prototype units, complete with its floation system and Torque/RPM test equipment already installed to the site which has no grid connection to show it's potential.
Hales Water Turbines Ltd also will remain in talks with Dover and the isle of Wight delegates to continue data exchange.
Hales Water Turbines Ltd has alsostated detailed discussions to send two 2MX2M size units to a remote community site in South East Asia.
